NWS: Drought persists across Northwest Florida

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service of Mobile visited with the First Warning Channel 3 Weather Team on Thursday.

They discussed the upcoming hurricane season and current weather conditions, including the drought for Northwest Florida.

Jason Beaman, Warning Coordination Meteorologist said, "If you look back at the past 90 days of rainfall, Pensacola area only has seen around half of what they average, had around 7 inches, average around 14 inches of rain so that's why they've been classified under a severe drought. The recent couple of inches of rain certainly has helped short term, along with the additional rain we expect through the next week. However, the long-term outlook is still for below-normal rainfall which would result in the drought persisting across the area," he said.
