OCSO: Burglar smashes front door of business for two packs of cigarettes
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
A man arrested for allegedly smashing the front door of a convenience store with a large rock caused $700 in damages for $10 worth of merchandise.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alarm at the Sunoco Food Mart on Highway 90 in Milligan around 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday and found the front door shattered.
Surveillance video showed a man grab two packs of Native brand cigarettes and a lighter before running out the door, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) said.
A photo of the suspect was given to authorities and an off-duty deputy later spotted the suspect on the Yellow River Bridge.
When told he was under arrest for burglary, a report states 30-year-old Eddie Mcleese said he wouldn’t have done it if the jail had not “stolen” his cigarettes and “we should call it even.”
Mcleese has been charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and petty theft.
