Beach attendant dies from lightning strike
A 22-year old beach umbrella attendant on Okaloosa Island died after being struck by lightning.
Emergency responders were called to a condo on Santa Rosa Boulevard around 3:11 p.m. after receiving calls of bystanders performing CPR on the young man.
He was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
A witness says the victim was about 20 feet from the water when he was struck.
"Lightning struck so hard, it was the biggest strike of lightning that I've ever seen and it just hit him. There were sparks and there was smokes and he literally just fell," a witness told Channel 3's Christopher Saul.
Channel 3 News has learned it happened at Island Princess Condominiums on Santa Rosa Boulevard.
