ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — An Escambia County man has been arrested, accused of multiple things including driving under the influence while two children were present in the car.
An arrest report from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office states a caller saw a man, later identified as 28-year-old Arthur Jones, passed out behind the wheel of a red Mercedes.
When the caller tried to make contact with Jones, he woke up and drove off, the report states.
That's when the caller started following Jones and told dispatch the vehicle was going "100 miles per hour" and there were children present in the vehicle, the report stated.
When a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Jones on Nine Mile Road by signaling for him to pull over by activating emergency lights and sirens and even using a PA system telling Jones to pull over, he initially failed to do so, according to the report.
Eventually the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder and the deputy made contact with Jones, who appeared to be driving off, the report revealed.
It was then that the deputy managed to reach through the window, shut the engine off and hit the emergency brake with his foot, the report said.
Jones was removed from the vehicle, where he began to resist the officer, the report stated.
The report also said when responding deputies arrived on scene they were able to detain Jones and a brown paper towel that contained 18.5 white oval pills, later identified as Tramadol, was removed from his hand.
The two children, who were not properly secured in child safety restraints, were removed from the vehicle and placed in custody of another person, the report stated.
Jones was arrested and charged with child neglect, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, resisting arrest without violence and DUI.
He was taken to the Escambia County Jail on a $13,500 bond.
