Ride for Recovery: Man biking from Florida to Hollywood makes stop in Pensacola
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
He's pedaling across the country with a message of hope in the midst of the opioid crisis.
James Matthews is riding his bike from West Palm Beach in Florida to Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Wednesday morning he stopped in Pensacola.
Matthews has been drug and alcohol-free for three years. He said he doesn't want to raise awareness of the problem, he wants people to hear success stories.
Matthews continued, "From alcohol and drugs and mental health that I suffered from, notice I said 'suffered,' because I don't suffer today, that we do recover. I want to be a part of that story."
This is Matthews' third and longest ride. It's expected to take seven weeks.
Then he'll return to his job at a rehab in south Florida.
