Sheriff: Detective waited weeks to apply for child porn search warrant on bus driver

A detective with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is under investigation for the way he handled an investigation.

The investigation led to the arrest of Santa Rosa County school bus driver Kenneth Webb for possession of child pornography.

Webb was arrested on Sept. 7 after deputies executed a search warrant on his home, but the investigation had been open since July and Webb continued driving until his arrest.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Bob Johnson confirmed the lead investigator in that case, Jason Denney, waited nearly two months to apply for a search warrant.

Sheriff Johnson said that was a mistake.

"I have the ultimate responsibility in any investigation, so I'll tell you this. We're looking at our policies and procedures in reference to our major crime investigations and we're gonna do some tweaking on different things," Sheriff Johnson said.

He added Denney didn’t know Webb was a bus driver and he applied for the search warrant as soon as he found out.

Sheriff Johnson said the sheriff’s office is reevaluating its policies and implementing new procedures to keep this from happening again.
