Strong storm in Fort Walton Beach destroys home, creates waterspout

Crews in Okaloosa County are picking up the pieces after some strong storms ripped through the area.

Michelle Seitz's roof is now in her pool, her kitchen is gone, and the place she's called home for 35 years is now unlivable.

"It was not even 10 seconds when we got down there. We heard stuff rip off the house. We came upstairs, saw the roof was off over kitchen area, boat was gone, banisters were gone. At the time, the tornado was sitting in the middle of the sound turning," she said.

As the tornado barreled toward her home on Okaloosa Island. Dave and Kathy Perkins were across the way at the Original Crab Shack.

"Water started coming up out of the Gulf, tore up one of the buildings, roof came off, boat flipped over, pieces of debris are falling out of the air," described Dave.

As they watched it happen, their concern was for anyone on the other side.

"I'd never seen anything like it and we were concerned about people on the island. That was our biggest concern, not knowing if anyone was injured," Dave said.
