Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office investigators say a couple argued before an apparent murder-suicide on New Year's Day.

On Monday afternoon, the sheriff's office responded to a call after a man found another man and woman dead inside a home in the 2100 block of Winners Circle.

Their names will not be released until the medical examiner confirms their identities.

Investigators believe the shooting deaths to be a murder-suicide.

Neighbors in this area said it's a tight-knit community.

"Well everybody up in here is kin to each other, if not, they've been here most all of their lives and all. It's real close-knit, we are, like, everybody up in here is family," said Jerry Mathis.

Mathis is one of the newer residents, although he's lived out here for quite some time.

The killings took him by surprise.

"It's heartbreaking, I hate to see that, you know? If people got problems," Mathis said. "Certain situations, you know, it might lead to that, but if you'll trust in the Lord, you won't have to worry about that."

Crisis centers like Shelter House provide an immediate way for victims of domestic violence to flee an abusive partner.

Okaloosa County's Shelter House is in Fort Walton Beach on Ferry Road.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in five victims of a domestic violence situation isn't intimate partners, but people trying to help, such as friends, relatives, neighbors and law enforcement officers.

Channel 3 has submitted records requests for 911 tapes and call out logs, to understand more about the situation.
