WeatherSTEM stations installed at all Escambia County high schools
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
Escambia County schools now have a new tool to keep outside activities from becoming dangerous.
WeatherSTEM stations are being installed at all county high schools.
They’ll monitor for extreme temperatures and humidity levels, and alert school employees of any dangerous conditions.
This will allow coaches and teachers to make sure practices and other activities are planned at the safest time for students.
The system also allows them to use the data in learning about weather, as part of state-approved curriculum.
"It was exciting because of the athletic component, you know, for what we could do safety-wise, but the educational value of it was really tremendous for our schools as well,” said District Athletic Director Roger Mayo.
Other schools will also have access to the data.
