Dramatic video of officer comforting babies after mother's overdose
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS 12) —
Boynton Beach police released body camera footage showing a police officer at the scene after two mothers were found passed out from apparent overdoses with their infants inside the SUV.
“We have two overdoses, two babies in the back,” the paramedic said to the responding officer at the scene along E. Woolbright Road on Oct 5.
The officer immediately tended to the screaming babies strapped in their car seats.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” the officer says softly while placing a pacifier inside the baby’s mouth.
In the video, you hear one of the paramedics tell the officer they administered Narcan, the overdose reversal drug.
Kristin O’Connor, 27, and June Schweinhart, 28, were charged with child neglect.
Police said the pair became friends after spending time in the same drug treatment center.
O’Connor said they were both pregnant, and hit it off because they had the same due date.
The Florida Department of Children and Families were notified.
Both infants, ages one month and two months, are safe.
O’Connor and Schweinhart are scheduled to appear in drug court on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
