Sheriff: Woman nearly cuts off daughter's hand with machete

(Jefferson County Jail)

A woman is facing charges of domestic violence and attempted murder following a domestic attack with a machete.

Jefferson County deputies responded to Woodland Hills Road in Pinson Monday afternoon to find an 18-year-old with severe wounds to her arms, hands and skull. Authorities say the victim's hand was almost severed in the attack. The victim told deputies her mother assaulted her with a machete. Investigators say the attack appears to have been over money.

Investigators later charged her mother, Corina D'Andrea with first degree domestic violence and attempted murder with a $30,000 bond.

The victim is expected to survive. Right now, she is in critical, but stable, condition.
