Choctaw Basketball ranked #1 in state
Last season, Choctaw's impressive playoff run came to an end in the regional finals at Ocala Vanguard. It's a memory that has lingered.
"I’ve thought about that game so much after we lost," said junior point guard Josh Williams.
The Indians are playing like a team on a mission, winning 13 of their first 14, and earning the state's number one ranking in Class 7A.
With their top stars, Diante Smith and Josh Williams now juniors, a rising program of young talent is giving way to a pretty experienced group.
Smith continues to grow into his superstar status. The 6'6" forward, with college offers from the likes of Miami, is averaging around 19 points and nine rebounds. Smith is stepping up in leadership, and pretty much every aspect of his game.
Williams, a dynamic point guard with an incredible ability to produce wow moments, is revving up his scoring punch this season, complimenting Smith with about 16 a night.
There are plenty of other weapons, including starters Senior Marquis Jackson and Junior Jayden Jones. Six foot six Senior Aron Scott is also proving key as a starter. He and Senior guard Dayday Raine transferred in from rival Fort Walton Beach, adding a lot to the mix.
