Gulf Breeze Girls ranked No. 1 in state

It's been a special season for the Gulf Breeze High girls soccer team. They've only lost once in 23 games and are ranked number one in the state for Class 3A.

They have lots of high-level talent, plenty of experience including eight seniors, and some impressive transfers that have blended in seamlessly. For the core group, add in extra motivation after coming up one game short of the final four in the past two seasons.

Gulf Breeze features plenty of capable scorers, but two senior co-captains really make things go. Forward Blair Amberson has scored a whopping 25 goals, and center-mid Rainey Niles is a special catalyst with 27 assists.

There is a third co-captain, and that's goalie Margeaux Hunt. She's been a huge difference maker on the back end.

After going unbeaten through 18 games, the Dolphins lost to rival Navarre 1-0 in the regular season finale. In the big picture, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

"It got the monkey off our back of an undefeated season", said Coach Ryan Williams.

The Dolphins host Mosley in the regional semifinals on Friday.
