Washington High School hires Whiddon as head football coach
Pensacola’s Booker T. Washington High School has named Niceville assistant coach Tommy Joe Whiddon as the Wildcats’ new football head coach. Whiddon has been the offensive coordinator at Niceville, serving on John Hicks’ staff for the past six years. He takes over a Wildcat program that went winless in ten games in 2018.
Whiddon comes to Washington from one of the most consistently successful programs in Northwest Florida. In his time as an assistant at Niceville, the Eagles played in a state championship game in 2013 and reached the state semifinals the following year.
Whiddon is a Niceville grad. He was the Eagles’ quarterback in 2002. He later played and coached college ball at Jacksonville State. And he was a graduate assistant at Auburn when the Tigers won the 2010 national championship.
Whiddon will be formally introduced as Washington’s head coach at a ceremony at the school, Friday.
