Ice Flyers hire new coach

The Pensacola Ice Flyers' new coach has deep ties to Pensacola; he's Jeff Bes and played for the Ice Pilots. He's also coached against the Ice Flyers.

Now he's the man who will lead them.

Bes coached against the Flyers in five of the past six season. Three with Mississippi Surge and the past two in Fayetteville.

Last year's team was Bes's best with the second best record in the league, before losing to the Flyers in the playoffs.

Ice Flyers owner Greg Harris chose Bes from three finalists. He liked Bes's passion for coaching and this league.

He also said he liked his familiarity with Pensacola, the Flyers and their expectations.

Harris also wanted a former player. Bes played pro for nearly 20 years, including the 2000 - 2001 season with the Ice Pilots when he scored 24 goals for Brian Cashman.

Escah coach has his own style, but Harris found an important trait that Bes shares with Rod Aldoff.

Harris will introduce Bes to Ice Flyers' fans at a reception on July 17.
