Wahoos win opener

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos opened the season with a 4-1 win over Tennessee in front of a sold out crowd on Thursday.

They used a similar formula that resulted in winning both halves last season. Terrific pitching and defense with some power delivering on offense.

Tyler Mahle was terrific on the mound, retired the 1st 13 batters he faced and ended up giving up just one run and three hits over 5.2 innings.

Combined with three relievers, Wahoos pitchers struck out 13 batters on the night.

The Wahoos started the game with three straight singles, Aristedes Aquino's hit drove in a run in his first at-bat on the double A level. Taylor Sparks and Eric Jagielo both hit solo home runs to provide all the offense needed.

The series with the Smokies continues through Monday.
