Yona Gavino

Yona Gavino joined WEAR-TV as a News Anchor/Reporter in November 2022.

She’s come full circle after beginning her career as a WEAR intern after graduating with a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of West Florida (UWF).

Before returning home, her career path took her to Michigan’s icy Upper Peninsula, then nearly as icy Milwaukee and Dallas.

Through over 12 years she’s reported on a vast variety of breaking news and high-profile stories: from tornadoes, ice storms, and an attack on Dallas Police Headquarters, to protests over police brutality.

Yona speaks fluent Tagalog and is passionate about shining a light on issues affecting the community. She hails from a proud military family and is an amateur chef, former competitive ballroom dancer, and insatiable traveler who last visited Iceland and Italy.
